Act One SceneOne:
Narrator: As our play opens a group of old men are sitting on rocking chairs outside the Roswell General Store. It’s getting late in the evening and the temperature is dropping rapidly. The men are suddenly startled by an unusual sight in the sky.
Dewey: What the heck is that? Look at the sky.
Buford: I don’t know. It looks like a silver disc with bright flashing lights.
Clem: It’s losing elevation real fast.
Dewey: I can’t see it any more. It’s disappeared behind yonder hill.
Narrator: In a few seconds the men heard a loud crash that sounded like thunder. The crash seemed to have come from behind the hill. As they heard the sound the sky lit up like a huge orange yellow flame.
Act One Scene Two:
Narrator: We are now at the ranch of Mick Russell. His ranch is not far from the city of Roswell . It is five AM and Mick is suddenly stirred from a sound sleep by the noise created by his animals.
Mick: Those damn animals! It’s too early for them to be up. I better go out and check what the commotion is all about.
Narrator: Mac sleepily puts on his jeans and a tee shirt and walks down the hall toward his son’s bedroom.
Mick: Rob, get up. The animals are all freaked out about something.
Rob: Ah come on Dad. I was up until three in the morning partying.
Mick: That’s tough. Put on your clothes and come help your dad.
Rob: All right I’m coming. Don’t get your shirt in a knot.
Narrator: As soon as Mick and Rob walk about one hundred yards out into the field they find out what rattled the animals.

Preface to Roswell 1947
Preface
The original script for the play Roswell 1947 was written over a period of two or more years. I wrote the play as I was looking for an appropriate play for my students in a psychiatric rehabilitation unit that was formerly my place of work. I had a hard time finding anything that I thought might capture and maintain he interest of my students. As I didn't have time for a lot of research I decided to write my own play. As things turned out this play was very popular with the majority of my students.
Quite by accident this play quickly became a comedy. The more I wrote the sillier the story became. I found myself laughing out loud as I wrote major portions of the play. In a word this play is for entertainment only. Yes, it did increase the reading skills of many of my students but this was actually a byproduct of the fun we had reading and performing Roswell 1947. In summary this story is pure fiction and is not meant to be taken seriously. I hope that you will enjoy the newly revised edition of the play. Have fun with it.
